ASUS A636 with integrated SiRF Star 3 chip GPS

Posted on 20/03/2006

For a few days now I am the proud owner of an ASUS A636 PDA with Windows Mobile 5. I have to say that I love it. I had to choose between ASUS A636 and Fujitsu Siemens N520 and I have to say that I made the right choice. The ASUS A636 comes with a complete car kit, a gooseneck to put on your windshield and a car charger. I wished it had also a desktop cradle, you can't have it all. The photos below were taken with a Nokia 6600 while watching Friends in the backseat.

Spyware Doctor, the best antisypware program out there

Posted on 20/03/2006

If you want a really good antispyware program, then forget Microsoft Antispyware or Ad-Aware and try Spyware Doctor. It's the only program that was able to find Sysbus32 rootkit and many other spyware that other programs did not even see.

Posted on 02/03/2006

If you need to log into your PC and get your files remotely and securely, then freeSSHd is a good place to start. It's a free SSH server for Windows that will get you set up with secure remote console access and file transfers quickly. It's also pretty lightweight, about 700 KB.

TomTom GO 910, 710, 510 GPS units get widescreen display

Posted on 02/03/2006

TomTom widescreen

TomTom has updated its Go series of GPS units with three new models, the 910, 710 and 510. At the high end, the 910 comes with maps of Europe, the US and Canada preinstalled, no doubt for those drives from Alaska to Russia across the Behring Strait. It also includes text-to-speech functions and a built-in MP3 player. All three new models come with a 4-inch widescreen touchscreen display, a dock for quick connections to a computer and an optional traffic info receiver. All models will be available in April, pricing has yet to be announced.

I hope the Eastern European map will be available asap. After testing the beta version, I can say that it will be awesome and at a resonable price.

Routable GPS Map for Romania

Posted on 01/03/2006

The software is called iGO and has a pretty good map of Romania. The software can be bought from www.gpsmore.ro but also from Altex/Mediagalaxy/Flamingo and Domo stores.
The software comes in two packages, the first includes only the software on a SD card and the second comes with a Mio PDA with integrated GPS. I personally would buy the software and a Fujitsu Siemens N520/Asus A636 PDA's with integrated GPS receivers.

Here's some photos with the iGO software running in romanian language, english is also available.

Sony PSP SWFPlayer v1.1

Posted on 01/03/2006

Flash Player PSPHacks.net has teamed up with RK Digital.net, Heavy.com Newgrounds.com and 71M to put out SWFPlayer v1.1. SWFPlayer v1.1 currently runs on v1.5 firmware, and is being tested for compatiblity on 2.x. Currently the player is a little buggy when playing flash files that use MP3 sound due to the fact that MP3 decoding requires too much memory, however PCM sound is fully supported, and hopefully the MP3 issues will be sorted out soon.

Sony introduces new 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo card

Posted on 01/03/2006

Sony has officially announced pricing and availability for its 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo card. First shown at this year's Consumer Electronics Show alongside an 8GB version, the new 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo card will be available in July for "about $250," according to the company.

At one-third the size and half the weight of the standard-size Memory Stick card, the 4GB PRO Duo media is designed to store large amounts of rich, multi-media content, including movies, music and high-resolution digital photos.

The new media card is compatible with a wide selection of currently available devices, including Sony's Cyber-Shot T Series and W Series cameras, Handycam camcorders and the PSP system.

For added versatility, all Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo™ media cards are sold with an adapter for devices with a standard-size Memory Stick media slot. It also offers the industry's highest durability with a standard operating temperature range of -13 F to +185 F.

Like all Memory Stick media products, the 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo card incorporates MagicGate copyright protection technology to allow for secure distribution of commercial content such as digital music and downloaded movies.
